It should have taken 2 weeks. The reason it took the Israelites 40 years was because of their unbelief in not wanting to enter the promised land. They also went by a more round about route which would have made it take a month or two longer anyway. Much of the 40 years was spent at Kadesh-Barnea in the Negev region.
