New Digital Camera Sony DSC-W1

After 4 years on the Fuji FinePix 40i “4 MP” camera, I have upgraded to the Sony DSC-W1 5 MegaPixel. It came down to the Canon S500 and the W1. After a trip to BestBuy and trying out both cameras the W1 was the winner by a nose. The S500 put up a good fight and really the deciding factor was Tina’s preference for the larger LCD. The s500 has a parnoramic feature that the W1 lacks, but the W1 had every other feature and the physical placement of the buttons is better.

The picture quality is a tad better on the W1, but you have to use the flash wisely because the Sony is able to pick up more data and can become whitewashed if you take a picture too close. The night shot which I have included here is amazing, there is not another 5MP camera on the market that can pick up this amount of data at night (in fact the picture looks better than the real thing, more light is captured by the camera than by your naked eye).

I have to give credit to Fuji who easily lasted longer than any other digital camera I have ever used, short of my Quicktake 200. I am happy to be on memory stick pro (which is blazingly fast) and away from the old school Smart Media. Expect to see the fruits of my labor explode on the Gallery.

Southern Fried Chicken and Buttered Mash Potatoes

Ingredients:

Southern Fried Chicken:

1 whole chicken, cut into 8 pieces
1 tablespoon poultry seasoning
2 eggs, whisked
3/4 cup milk
1 cup all-purpose flour
Vegetable oil, for frying
Salt and freshly ground pepper

Buttered Mashed Potatoes, recipe follows

Instructions:

Rub the chicken pieces on both sides with the poultry seasoning. In a medium bowl, whisk the eggs and the milk together. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, salt and pepper. Dip the chicken in the egg and milk mixture, and then dredge the chicken in the flour mixture.

Heat enough oil to generously cover the bottom of a large, deep pan over medium-high heat. Fry the battered chicken until all sides are golden brown and the meat is cooked through.

Serve with Buttered Mashed Potatoes…

Buttered Mashed Potatoes:

2 large white potatoes, peeled and cubed (recommended: Russets)
2 tablespoons butter
Salt and pepper

In a large pot, add the potatoes and pour just enough water to fully cover the potatoes. Heat the water over high heat, until the water comes to a rolling boil. Boil the potatoes in water until they are tender and then drain. Place the potatoes back on the heat and stir until the steam dissipates. Add butter, salt and pepper to the pot and then mash together until they reach the desired consistency.

Make sure to enjoy this with the Sweet Tea!

My 30th Birthday

Wow! A great night at Shadowbrook in Capitola. It was a family party, with great food and double jacks. Tina surprised me with a special ordered Red Velvet Cake, which is the most phenomenal dessert from the south, and cannot be found anywhere! I had been sick the day before and leading up to the party, but during the dinner I felt great!
